August 8 | Smoke & Honey - Incense and Candle Dipping workshops
10AM - 3PM
Join Monet and Sadie for a day dedicated to the senses with two workshops that explore ancient crafts.
Natural Incense Making: In this workshop, you will explore many different botanical herbs, spices, and resins used for natural incense making throughout time. You will learn some of the history of incense and meet some of the most ancient herbs and resins used by indigenous cultures, as well as connect to several botanicals that can be sustainably harvested locally and grown in your garden. You will learn how to craft an aromatic botanical incense blend from start to finish and go home with a couple handmade incense sticks that we make together, the knowledge required to start crafting your own blends, and smelling like a sacred temple of antiquity.
Beeswax Candle Dipping: Learn to make candle sticks the old way, layer by layer, did by dip using local, natural beeswax. Sadie will guide you through this ancient craft to make your own twisted or straight taper candles that will burn for hours. Each participant can make up to four candles and can adorn them with stamps, flowers or secret notes.
The Whimsy: In addition to these ancient teaching, we will start the day with a grounding sensory meditation and homegrown tea. You will bring your own lunch, but we will also have a homemade sweet treat to share. Participants are welcome to spend time on the land, exploring the garden, connecting to sheep or taking a wander down the river.
The Space: Class will be held on a private homestead in Atascadero. Address will be provided upon sign-up. The land is nestled between Pine mountain and the Salina river and is tranquil, beautiful and a sweet place to learn.
The Teachers: Monet Davis and Sadie Moss share many passions in this life, but the ones that are bringing them together for this workshop playdate is a dedication to ancient crafts, a love of herbal plants and a desire to live a non-toxic but delectable life that is soaked in the senses. Collaborating has been a many year vision in the making and we are very excited to finally swirl our gifts together for our community.
